I am a PhD Candidate in Political Science at the University of Amsterdam, where I am part of the Care Politics project (2025–2030, NWO-VIDI funded), led by Dr. Franca van Hooren. The project investigates the conditions under which political decisions are made to improve working conditions in senior care, and how care workers become politically active.
My research focuses on the political agency of paid eldercare workers in the Netherlands and England from a comparative perspective. I examine how care workers perceive their political interests, what they expect from the state, and why they do — or do not — mobilize politically. The goal is to advance our understanding of how marginalized labor engages with the state, articulates claims, and contests the boundaries of political participation.
More broadly, my interests center on the historical and contemporary marginalization of feminized and migrant labor, the representation of their interests vis-à-vis the state, and how these dynamics are shaped by intersectionality. To that end, I have collaborated with trade unions, including ver.di, to examine how migrant nurses are represented within union structures. My work moves across political science, labor studies, and social policy research.
