Acceptance

Within four weeks after the application deadline all students will receive information on the status of their application.

Learning agreement and other documents

Home universities often require specific documents to be signed by the Student Exchange Office of the Faculty of Science. The most common are the Learning Agreement and Confirmation of Arrival.
The Learning Agreement is signed after course enrolment has been confirmed (semester 1 in June, semester 2 in December).
The Confirmation of Arrival is signed once you arrive in Amsterdam, usually during the welcome meeting at the Faculty of Science.

Housing

The Amsterdam housing market is extremely challenging. UvA International Student Housing has a limited number of rooms reserved for newly incoming international students every semester. Therefore accommodation cannot be guaranteed.
Shortly after acceptance you will receive an email about the application procedure for student housing (lottery).
More information on UvA International Student Housing can be found on uva.nl/housing

Arrival

It’s recommended to arrive 7 to 14 days prior to the start of the semester. Exchange students are expected to attend the Faculty of Science welcome meeting (end of August for semester 1, end of January for semester 2). Atendance is obligatory as well as attending the first class of the semester.

Practical information

Moving to Amsterdam to start your exchange is an exciting experience. To help you with the transition, the UvA has various services and support facilities. In this section you can find more information on visa or residence permit requirements, your insurance, studying with a disability or chronic illness, credits and grading and other practical matters.
