After completing the Master's programme, students will have obtained knowledge and an understanding of the origins and development of genocidal processes, as well as their aftermath: how societies deal with the consequences of mass murder and genocide, and the moral and political implications. In light of society's increasing interest in this subject, this specialisation will give you better career prospects than you would have with only a Bachelor's degree.
Historians can find employment in politics, journalism, at an NGO, at an international court of justice, at a library archive, in a museum or a publishing house. An increasing number of historians are also working in government and the private sector. After graduation you might find a job as a:
researcher at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies: conducting and publishing historical research on war and mass violence.
policy officer at a (international) government agency: developing, implementing and evaluating policies related to security, human rights or international cooperation.
project manager at a non-profit: being responsible for fundraising and coordinating projects on topics like social issues and peace building.
reporter for a news platform: following international developments and reporting on conflicts, human rights and justice.
collections specialist at an archive: managing and preserving archival materials and presenting records to researchers and the public.
